Laboratory Science Management System (LSMS) web application interface

about

the laboratory science management system (lsms) is a web-based borrowing and inventory platform developed for davao del sur state college (dssc).

the system has three levels of access: super admin, admin, and users (students and staff). each role has its own functionality, from requesting laboratory equipment to managing inventory, monitoring borrowed items, and viewing analytics.

this project was originally conceptualized as a capstone study by my client. while the objectives and system requirements came from her, i was responsible for building the entire web application from scratch, including its interface, functionality, and technical implementation.

case study

the problem

at davao del sur state college, laboratory equipment borrowing still relies on manual processes, from submitting requests to tracking borrowed items and managing accountability.

this makes it difficult for administrators to monitor equipment availability, identify overdue returns, and gather meaningful data about borrowing activities.

there's also limited visibility into which academic programs borrow the most equipment, when borrowing activity peaks, and how resources are used by borrowers from inside or outside the institution.

the approach

the goal was to turn these manual processes into a more organized digital experience.

i developed a centralized platform where students and staff can browse available equipment and submit borrowing requests directly through the website.

for administrators, the system provides tools to manage equipment inventory, review requests, monitor borrowed and overdue items, issue notifications, and provide accountability forms.

i also implemented an analytics dashboard to help administrators understand borrowing patterns, including peak borrowing days, frequently borrowed equipment, and borrowing activity across different academic programs.

my role

as the project's developer, i handled the technical implementation from the ground up, translating my client's proposed objectives and requirements into a functional web application.

my responsibilities included UI/UX design, frontend and backend development, database integration, authentication, role-based access, and deployment.

the outcome

lsms brings equipment borrowing, inventory management, and administrative monitoring into one platform.

beyond digitizing the request process, it gives administrators a clearer view of how laboratory resources are being used and helps them make more informed decisions through data.

for me, this project was an opportunity to turn someone else's research objectives into an actual working system, while handling both the design and development side of a full-stack application.
