The Danny

about
the danny is a personal website i created in memory of my late father.
it's a small interactive world that brings together a mini-game, photographs, and memories of him. i wanted to create something beyond a traditional memorial page. somewhere i could return to whenever i miss him, and somewhere a part of him could continue to exist through the things i create.
this isn't a project i consider finished, and i don't think it ever will be. i plan to keep maintaining it, adding more photographs, memories, and little details as the years go by.
it's my little way of keeping him close, even when he's no longer here.

case study
the danny is probably the most personal project i've ever worked on.
when my father passed away, i wanted to make something for him. not just a page filled with photographs or a simple tribute, but an entire little world where i could preserve our memories and continue adding to them over time.
that idea became the danny.
i've always been interested in immersive web experiences, especially websites that feel more like something you can explore rather than simply scroll through. for this project, i finally decided to properly learn three.js and explore how i could use three-dimensional environments, animation, sound, and interaction to tell a personal story.
the entire journey took around four months, including learning three.js, planning the experience, preparing the assets, and developing the website itself.
i worked on everything independently, from the initial concept and layouts to the visual direction, asset preparation, audio selection, character interactions, environmental details, and development. i wanted every part of the experience to feel intentional, even the smallest movements and transitions.
one of the biggest challenges was creating a world that actually felt alive. i spent time experimenting with character movement, camera behavior, environmental animation, and how different elements should respond as visitors explore the surroundings. i wanted the experience to feel peaceful and comforting instead of simply looking like a three-dimensional scene.
another important part was figuring out how to bring photographs and memories into an interactive environment without making them feel disconnected from the world itself. the goal was never to make a complicated game. it was to create a quiet place where people could explore, remember, and spend a little time with him.
working on the danny taught me more than just three.js or creative development. it pushed me to learn unfamiliar technologies, solve problems independently, and think about how design, sound, motion, and storytelling can work together to create something meaningful.
but more than anything, this project was never about showing what i could build.
it was about building something for someone i love.
and as long as i can, i'll keep coming back to this little world, adding more pieces of him along the way.
